The Beltline Concept

"Over the years there have been a number of proposals for portions of Atlanta’s historic belt line railroads, including the City of Atlanta’s Cultural Ring project prior to the 1996 Olympic Games. In 1999, Ryan Gravel completed his master’s thesis at Georgia Tech and took the project to a whole new level."
— excerpt from Friends of the BeltLine website.

See the history of the BeltLine vision at Friends of the BeltLine. The original “green” vision of the BeltLine should be satisfactorily incorporated in development plans so as to preserve the concept of an “emerald necklace” of parks connecting Atlanta neighborhoods via appropriate trails and transit.

The BeltLine Neighbors Coalition is contributing to discussion with city planners and officials to assist in producing a plan for the BeltLine that will integrate neighborhoods, open spaces, transit, and economic development.
